What We Do

The IDEB Marine Engineers Association provides a dynamic platform that focuses on technical knowledge sharing and professional collaboration, career guidance and access to global job opportunities, training, certification, and continuous professional development, organizing engineering seminars, workshops, and networking events, advocacy for national and international professional recognition, and promoting globally skilled Diploma Marine Engineers from Bangladesh.
Through these initiatives, IDEBMEA aims to unite the global community of Bangladeshi marine engineers under one professional umbrella

Our members contribute to a wide range of maritime, offshore, and onshore industries that are vital to national and global infrastructure, including maritime transportation and engineering afloat, power plants and floating barge-mounted plants, industrial maintenance and utilities on board vessels, offshore oil, gas, and LNG terminals, dry docks, and shipyards, marine equipment manufacturing and shipbuilding and ship repairing industries, and offshore wind and wave technology for renewable marine energy.

Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU): A floating storage unit (FSU) is a vessel used for offshore storage of liquefied natural gas (LNG) or other products.
Whether serving at sea or onshore, Bangladeshi marine engineers play a critical role in keeping industries operational and global trade moving. IDEBMEA serves as a bridge connecting technical professionals, fostering innovation, and advocating for their recognition at home and abroad.

Institutional Background

The foundation of marine engineering education in Bangladesh traces back to the Bangladesh Institute of Marine Technology (BIMT), located in Bandar, Narayanganj. Established in 1956 under the International Labour Organization (ILO) as the Marine Diesel Training Centre (MDTC), it was later renamed the Bangladesh Institute of Marine Technology (BIMT) on December 10, 1979.
Today, five additional Institutes of Marine Technology operate under the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment: IMT Bagerhat, IMT-Chandpur, IMT-Munshiganj, IMT-Faridpur, and IMT Sirajganj.
Together, these institutions continue to produce skilled Diploma Marine Engineers contributing to national and global industries.
